Raphael was born in Beaubassin, Nova Scotia, the son of Pierre Rene Caissie and Rosalie Léger. The family named reportedly traces to an Irishman named Roger Casey born about 1648.

Victoire was from Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Joseph M. “Joson” Arsenault and Anne-Marie Gouguen.

Raphael and Victoire married on 17 Jul 1808 in Cocagne, Dundas, Kent County, New Brunswick. At least some of their children were born in Richibucto.

Raphael died at the end of 1830. On 9 Sep 1844, Victoire married widower Placide Poirier (~1771-16 Sep 1861). The 1861 census for New Brunswick showed Victoire with Placide (age 90!), living with Placide’s son Luke (Luc) shortly before Placide’s death. Online reports place Victoire’s death as late as 1886.
