Joseph was born on Prince Edward Island, son of Paul Arsenault and Anne Bernard.
Anne-Marie was the daughter of Joseph Gueguen I and Anne “Nanon” Arseneau. Her place of birth is unclear, but she was christened on 9 June 1766 in Miquelon, Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Joseph and Anne married about 1783 in Cocagne, Dundas, Kent County, New Brunswick. They settled there, and their children were born there.
They died there as well – Joseph about 1803, and Anne-Marie three years later.
