According to baptism records, Joseph was the son of Michel Mercure and Marie Angélique Potvin of Saint-Basile, Madawaska, New Brunswick, which is now at the northern tip of Maine, across the river from Edmundston, New Brunswick. There’s a rival claim that his parents were Louis Mercure (1753-1817) and Marie Madeleine Thibodeaux (1748-1795), who married on 1 Dec 1772 in Acadia.

Louisette was born in St-Joseph-de-Carleton (now Carleton-sur-Mer), Bonaventure, Quebec, just across Chaleur Bay north of New Brunswick. Her parents were Charles Létourneau and Marie-Martha Bernard.

Joseph and Louisette married on 30 Aug 1825 in Saint-Basile. Their first child, Émilie, was born there. They were reportedly living in Richibucto, New Brunswick out on the coast by 1829.

I’m having a hard time believing that almost 14 years passed between the births of the penultimate and final children.

Louisette reportedly died in Richibucto in 1868. No record for Joseph.

Louise married Fidele Arseneau (1 Jun 1826-Oct 1907) from Prince Edward Island in 1849. The family also spelled it Arseneaux, Arsineau, and Arsenault, as is customary. Their children:
